Our progress has continued as we have found breeze. Not on yesterday’s forecasts but it’s been here for a while which suggests we are to the east of the giant wind hole. The cloud banks start low and are towering. I’m currently sitting soaking wet having come in from the deck where lightning lit the skies all around. We are sailing through what seems to be the biggest electrical storm I've encountered. So much energy. It may be worth noting our now 24hr old forecast shows just shy of 100 knots in this very spot in just a few days time.
Sudden squalls are common and our team is just in the middle of a headsail change from such a squall. This one however lasted longer and instead of a drop and re-hoist we looked for a drop and then a Yankee 2. As I write however the wind is falling again. Now it’s back in the range for the Yankee 1.
We continue our passage to the finish line so we can finally regroup with the rest of the fleet. Hopefully we can put the past two legs behind us, and find some comfort in racing with the fleet once more.
